Job Title: Housing Monitor
Reports To: Chattanooga Program Director
Summary: To provide a consistent, physical presence in the
facility assisting residents with emergency and
non-emergency needs, and communicating concerns
to the Program Director.
Duration of Assignment: Six months with option of an additional
six months. Renewal of assignment requires reapplication and approval.
Probationary period: 90 days
Creation date:May 2010
Primary Responsibilities and Duties include the following:
- Reside in the Housing Monitor residential suite in the Chattanooga facility.
- Be available to residents for:
- Immediate concerns, needs and relapse prevention. Any learning experiences concerning inappropriate behaviors should be discussed with the Program Director (or if unavailable, the staff member on call) before a decision or action is taken (i.e.: a resident’s tardiness or non-return, relapse, injuries, threats, etc)
- Work hours: 20 hours per week (15 scheduled and 5 hours which are for emergencies and are flexible to the needs of the program.) Housing Monitor is able to leave the building to pursue her own interests as long as she can report back to the house within 30 minutes to handle any situation that arises.
- Relief coverage will be available periodically for Housing Monitor to be able to spend the night away from the house with two weeks advance notice.
- Encourage the Core Values of The Next Door at all times.
- Conduct room checks twice while on duty and as needed for safety.
- Create, implement and monitor resident chore chart and completion of chores.
- Report maintenance and facility concerns to Program Director.
- Ensure the credibility of both the program and its residents through visual contact with each resident every night at curfew.
- Maintain quiet hours.
- Conduct/assist with weekly floor meetings as designed by Case Manager or Program Director.
- Provide documentation of significant encounters to Case manager.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
To be successful in executing the responsibilities and duties assigned in this job, a person must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. This person must be self-motivated and able to make quality, ethical decisions independent of supervision when necessary.
Professionalism:
- Keep all information regarding staff, residents, diagnosis, group information, etc. confidential at all times.
- Consistently treat residents and co-workers with the utmost respect.
- Work as a necessary part of a team effort.
- Model ethical and professional behavior at all times.
- Participate in ongoing meetings and trainings as required by leadership.
- Participate in random drug testing, required of all staff.
- Be creative and assist leadership with ideas for improving the overall quality of the services and environment for the residents of The Next Door.
Other Requirements:
- Valid Tennessee Driver’s license with F class endorsement preferred.
- Graduates of The Next Door who have been successfully living in the community or others in community modeling recovery may also be eligible.
The Next Door, Inc commits to:
- Providing a single occupancy room that is furnished. Furnishings are to be left upon departure.
- Providing utilities including electric and water.
- Providing a cell phone for work related calls.
- Providing laundry facilities at no cost.
- Providing dinner five nights per week.
Housing Monitor Commits to:
- Housing Monitor respects that TND is a residential facility and as such its occupants call TND their “home.” It is understood that:
- Housing Monitor will respect the right to privacy whenever possible.
- Housing Monitor will use discretion when inviting guests to the home.
- Housing Monitor will not permit overnight visitors (other than her child/children) to stay in her living space unless permission is obtained from Program Director in advance.
- Housing Monitor will leave her door open when a resident is in her living space.
- Housing Monitor will maintain a clean living environment.
- Housing Monitor will continue to work toward and maintain her recovery if applicable as evidenced by attendance at weekly 12-step or other recovery group outside of TND.
