The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks an individual with exceptional management and development skills to build and bring significant change to the development program in its School of Business. The Senior Director of Development will be joining a school that is currently at the commencement of a new era of expansion in facilities, research, and outreach under the leadership of Dean David R. Klock, who has embarked on a transformational model to reshape the school, establish it as a “destination school” for high achieving students in the South, raise its overall profile among business schools, and enhance support for excellence in published research.
In this role, the Senior Director of Development will mold and build upon the existing development program, while creating the School’s long-term fundraising strategy. S/he will manage and implement all activities relating to fundraising, donor management, and events to support the School of Business. The Senior Director of Development will leverage the time of the Dean, take the lead on cultivating and managing all donor relationships and stewardship, and recruit and manage a development team.
UAB seeks a candidate who is excited by the challenge of building a program and who wants to be a change agent in an evolving school. The new Senior Director of Development should be:
· A strategic thinker and advisor who can quickly assess the existing
development program and opportunities for growth and create and
implement plans to achieve the new fundraising goals
· An accomplished fundraiser with a demonstrated record of success
in the individual major gifts arena in higher education
· A solid manager and leader who will embrace UAB’s mission, commit
to expanding its reach, and craft ways to convey its goals so that
they translate to a measurable increase in monies raised.
The successful candidate will have at least 10 years’ development experience, ideally including time spent within a public university.
